Personally, I think the first is most fitting, considering the election heading this way Saturday, and all the machinations going on at present. It’s kind of a sobering thought when thinks about it and yes – it is our money. Actually, once we get some of that back, sober won’t be an issue for many…
About 8am, the phone rings. I answer it, to hear a duet of ‘Happy Birthday’. Quite a reasonable rendition, too – in fact, I’d rate it better than what I’d heard on NZ Idol this time around.
This birthday was brilliant. Good food, good drink, and great company…oh – and a Wild Turkey shirt. To honour this gift, I shall endeavour to be partaking of the Turkey whenever I wear it. It’s the right thing to do. 🙂
It’s getting warmer – time to start stealing the sun from the Northern Hemisphere in earnest 🙂
There’s been two or three days in the last week or so it’s been almost Summer time hot, which is great news.
To this end, there is now a nice new shiny (shiny’s always good!) outdoor table gracing the front patio. It’s courtesy of one of our neighbours who imports outdoor furniture (amongst other things) so delivery wasn’t an issue :p

We Apple people have been having an interesting discussion (of course it’s interesting – otherwise it wouldn’t have really occurred…) about the ocean and mountains etc.
The general consensus is that if one has grown up around one or the other, a restless feeling can develop when not around these natural features. This of course makes sense. What did come to the fore is that with oceans and mountains, is that one can often be an acceptable substitute for the other.
I’ve almost always been within an hour or so of the water my whole life, and on the odd occasion I haven’t been, I’ve generally been up a mountain. Looking back, I’d agree with the above.
In the conversation it was mentioned that some people live 8-900 miles away from any large body of water, or mountain, and are quite happy about this. I’m not really sure how I’d feel plonked in the middle of Texas (apart from the obvious reasons ;)).
It’s been err *checks last post date* almost a month now, and the only time I’ve had to restart the Mac was for the 10.4.2 system update, and when taking the machine to Hamilton, and Sarah’s. Apart from that, it hasn’t put a foot wrong.
Why didn’t I do this many moons earlier? Silly Windows masochists.
…we had a guest chef. This time the honour and glory go to Minh – a friend of Jacqui’s who also enjoys food as much as we do.
I’m not sure why, but people keep putting their hand up to come around and cook at our (very casual) dinner parties – do we look underfed? (those who watch ‘The Biggest Loser’ may agree here).
On the menu was steak, marinated in kiwifruit and other various flavours of which I couldn’t describe – mainly because I can’t remember – but it was good! There was also salad which if I recall, tasted ok too. Don’t really know though, as I’m a guy, and there was steak. Nice steak. Flavoursome steak. Mmm, steak…
Marty called last night when we got home, and asked if we were coming up to Cesar’s – his staff were looking after everything, and he was at a loose end. I answered in the negative due to the aforementioned plans, and Marty offered to cook. I thought he was kidding at first, but he insisted, so we were pretty happy about this, as Marty’s been a chef for 10 years or more, and knew his way around a kitchen. Was that the best decision of the week!
Chicken with a spinach and cream sauce, and a tomato based pasta. I could be a little biased due to the Wild Turkey used in the cream sauce, but it was the best meal I had eaten in a very long time. Everyone else there agreed though, so it must have been top notch. Sarah and I have been to quite a few restaurants lately, but this topped them all 🙂
The sauces were very flavoursome, but not too heavy, as can often happen. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and it all came together so well. I have come to accept this is the difference between myself, and someone who is a chef. However, I will continue to subject friends and family to my efforts, just to show I care.
