Rogers Wireless
There have been a number of reports that Apple has punished Canadian cellular provider Rogers Wireless in response to what most see as very poor value plans. According to a number of sources, the Apple Stores in Canada will not be selling the iPhone, and most of the stock destined for Canada has been diverted to European countries instead. In what many see as swift turnaround, Rogers have announced a 6GB data plan for $30 a month.

Unlocked 3G iPhones in Belgium ‘make locking look good’.
Respected technical site Ars Technica have reported on Belgium’s retail 3G iPhone prices.
“the unlocked phones carry a very hefty price tag at €525 ($822) for the 8GB version and €615 ($963) for the 16GB version. A good $150 of that is VAT (sales tax), but still.”
Hence without sales tax the Belgian price for an 8GB iPhone is NZ$885, compared to $862 (ex. GST) here. The article sums up the issue faced by mobile consumers worldwide:
“With the way the cellular industry is set up currently, the consumer really can’t win: plans are inflated by the subsidies necessary to make phones “twice as cheap” in order to get sheep people to buy them, but waiving the subsidy doesn’t buy you a cheaper plan.”
O2’s ordering system collapse as 3G iPhone orders come.
O2 have stopped taking pre-orders for the 3G iPhone as orders reached 13,000 per second before the online store came crashing down. Company representatives have stated:
“We had invested heavily to add a huge amount of additional capacity, 250 times its normal rate, and back-up systems. We tested this carefully in advance. The massive simultaneous crush exceeded even our worst case assumptions. Demand was at 13,000 orders per second. Frankly, we have to admit we just weren’t prepared for this unprecedented level of demand. No website is.”Oh – and what other phone can do this?

I sent feedback to Apple because a phone that costs them $200 to make shouldn’t be costing us over $1000.
All about what people will pay and there’s people out there who will pay that much for an Apple phone. It’ll come down though look at the Macbook Air
Still expensive. Wonder how many they sold so far.
