Amusing Quote of the Day – TelstraClear’s Dr Freeth

Regarding TelstraClear’s announcement about axing 100 jobs in NZ and moving some core activities to Australia:

“Dr Freeth says the changes will reduce TelstraClear’s cost base and should improve its efficiency. Because of Telstra’s scale, “they can do things much faster and much cheaper than we can”.

How on earth am I meant to take the piss when they do it so well themselves? Not fair!

    ‘can’ doesn’t mean ‘will’

I can’t imagine TelstraClear’s costs being much more than a small blip on the parent company’s income statement, anyway. When a company is in TelstraClear’s situation though, attempting to make money in large part on resold products at a ‘retail-less’ basis as opposed to a ‘cost-plus’, every little bit counts.

Telstraclear finally made some money last quarter. Miracles do happen!

There was something in the paper the other day about how they’d finally made some money and Telstra in Aus saw them as important. I guess that means they’ll be around a while.
